Course Description:
Federal OSHA requires Hazardous Waste Operations Training (HAZWOPER) for general site workers. General site workers include equipment operators, general laborers and supervisory personnel engaged in hazardous substance removal or other activities that expose or potentially expose them to hazardous substance and health hazards. These workers must receive a minimum of 40 hours of instruction off the site, and a minimum of three days of actual field experience under the direct supervision of a trained experienced supervisor. The 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations Program is designed to meet the requirements of the initial instruction for hazardous waste clean-up activities. The student will study topics in recognition of chemical, biological, and physical hazards in the work environment, medical surveillance, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, spill response, planning and organization, site characterization, air sampling, site control, drum handling, decontamination, and disposal of hazardous waste. 29 CFR 1910.120.
