Staff Bio - Delbert (Del) Smith
Mr. Smith
has nearly 20 years experience providing criminal justice
research, civil and criminal investigations, law enforcement,
police management and security consulting. During this time
he has held the position of Commissioner with the Alaska Department
of Public Safety, where he was responsible for oversight and
management of the divisions and agencies, including Alaska
State Troopers, Fish & Wildlife Protection, Fire Prevention,
Administrative Services, Alaska Police Standards Council,
Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and the Violent
Crimes Compensation Board. Mr. Smith also spent seven years
as Deputy Commissioner with the Alaska Department of Public
Safety.
Prior to his work with the Department of Public Safety,
Mr. Smith was employed by the Anchorage Police Department.
During his last few years with the department, he was the
Deputy Chief of Operations, making him responsible for direction/supervision
and administration of bureau providing all enforcement activities,
i.e. criminal investigations, patrol, traffic, narcotics enforcement
and 911 emergency/police dispatch. Other positions he held
with the Anchorage Police Department included Commander (Captain)
Uniform Field Services Division (Patrol), Commander (Captain)
Investigation Services Division, Commander (Captain) Administrative
Services Division, Lieutenant Administrative Service Division,
Investigator (Sergeant), and Patrol Officer.
Mr. Smith was awarded a Police Administration AA degree
(Cum Laude) from Anchorage Community College, and has taken
extensive classes at University of Alaska in the Criminal
Justice program. |
